Training Days

Man I've been busy!  Life has been good though.  I did pass up the final 3 rounds of the CA State Series but riding has actually been going really well.  I'm training hard and excited for a big summer of racing to come.  The ironic thing is I'm writing this post about my training after waking up with a cold this morning.  Instead of racing at the Over The Hump weeknight series (which is happening as I type) I'm chilling at home.  It's all good though.  After a 2 week block of base at the end of May I've already done another 2 week block of really solid training with some tough tempo rides and raced 2 rounds of OTH.  Now after a little more unplanned rest I'll be ready to do my final 2 week build before Downieville and Nats.  It's time for a couple tough interval sessions and then I should be ready to go.

I've been riding for so many years and am still amazed to learn new things about training, and what works for my body.  Focusing on 2 weeks of training on a time recently (compared to 3 weeks at a time in the past) seems to be a lot better fit for me with the stresses of work and everything else going on.  I guess I truly like training too, because I've been riding hard for several weeks in a row without any racing and have been really enjoying it.   It's all about the process, making the most of my gifts, and enjoying some time with God.

Here's a couple random shots - see you at the races soon!

Solo tempo workout!

  1. I've been reading Ryan Hall's book Running with Joy. I ended up with it after staying at Dee and Brett's on our way up to Tulsa. It's great reading about his spiritual journey during training, but it's also cool to see the workouts that he does. I like seeing your power numbers, looks like your solo tempo rides are very consistent, that'd be hard to accomplish solo. Glad to hear your getting some solid training in this summer, we're lucky if make it through the day without melting here in Texas
